I have some serious issues with these guys,but I have to say that this is a REALLY nice van

Guest john john wrote: Sunday, February 26, 2006 - 12:45

I'd have to disagree on you with that. Based on what I've been hearing from other officers and police tests, these cars aren't showing much promise. The Charger, on the other hand, keep your eye on that.

This is my hometown,I have always loved their police cars,and growing up I knew a lot of cops and they are all great guys. The Syracuse Police Dept. is made up of a great bunch of officers. I am fortunate because my brother is an onondaga county 911 center dispatcher and calltaker,and he introduced me to a lot of syracuse police officers and firefighters. This is a great photo of a traffic unit. I don't know if anyone knows this,but the Syracuse police department is in this photo. It is the building at the end of the street to the right-the one with a lot of windows.(not the one with the bushes,but the one in the background) The police department also serves as the city jail. They recently built a new addition to house more cells. The police department is very modern and well-kept. The paint scheme and design on this police car has since been replaced-the syracuse police department's fleet is now mostly black and white,95% of their cars are black and white-but they are keeping the cars with this design until they can no longer run. Their current fleet is very old and the cars themselves have a ton of miles on them-that is why they ordered a brand new fleet of about 100 black and whites.(100 at the most) Anyway,I hope to see a lot more syracuse police cars on this website-I love seeing them! It is cool to see my hometown and its proud police force. Again,great photo!!

Darryl: That's not another mirror. It is outside mounted radar unit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No, Darryl is correct. There is a mirror on the driver's door and another on the front left fender. The fender mount was a mirror/spotlight combo.
Based on the hubcap, this is a 1973 Chevy. 1974 Chevys had a different hubcap. Looks like you're going to have to do a little more painting on your restoration, Joe...
Guest Darryl Lindsay wrote: Friday, February 24, 2006 - 20:38
Anybody know why the 59 Chev had 2 outside rearview mirrors?
Guest ward wrote: Thursday, January 26, 2006 - 20:17
and they are storing the wreck in case they run short of fan belts, which is about the only thing you salvage from this...
glad to hear the officer was ok. in my dept someone drives over a sidewalk they are out for 3 months (paid)
Guest ward wrote: Thursday, January 26, 2006 - 20:13
Guest ward wrote: Thursday, January 26, 2006 - 20:08
now imagine you're on patrol today in a plastic impala...think you'll be just "shook up"?
Guest el taco grande wrote: Sunday, November 6, 2005 - 19:09
Guest Joe A wrote: Sunday, November 6, 2005 - 12:30
I thought it was a good photo, not quite great. I'm just happy someone is looking at my album.
I wish I was a small town sheriff.Just patroling maybe with a town size of about 300.Everyone knows you.You can stop and get a cold drink at a mom and pop store.And plus you can really open the vic up on those back roads.Just a nice boring hot summer day.
Well, Barney Fife, that's all fine and dandy until you have to lock up people you know or that you're related to. Or better yet, when folks stop by your house during your off-duty time and expect you to drop what you're doing and be the police for their stupid problem.
No thanks. Give me the anonymity of a city of 3 million people any day.
Thanks for the back-up, Dan. I didn't want to bore the viewers with all the photos, but I do have a close up of the lightbars on the Norwegian vehicles - Made in the USA.
Dear Anonymous, I think the name of the web site is "Copcar.com". I don't recall seeing the word(S) "American/American only copcar.com". Being a cop in So. Cal., I like seeing police vehicles from all over the world. Obviously Mr. Angelino ("Top") likes to share his pics. Semper Fi, Top!
Speaking of high visibility patrol. On a recent trip to Hawaii (Oahu Island), I noticed that most of the units (marked and unmarked) during the hours of darkness were equipped with "Cruise lights" on thier lightbars or removable beacons (a low candlepower lamp mounted inside the light housing). I asked one on the Sgts. at the station why they did this. He said that was the Chiefs idea of "High visibilty patrol". Apparently the population likes to look out thier windows at night and look for the patrol cars. Although it's bad for stats because the bad guys see them coming a mile away.
