I'm not looking to start another Chevy vs. Ford debate here. The Chevy steering wheels were garbage. I've never had a Ford steering wheel come apart in any PI I've been assigned for duty since 1996. It was only the Caprice wheels that fell apart from 91-95.

The steering wheel on all post 91 Chevrolet Caprices I have driven got this discoloration and often started to fall apart like this.

Federal Motor Vehicle Standards control steering wheel design and the materials they are made of. GM,Ford and DCX aren't going to make a "police car" steering wheel. These cars have a service update part that replaced the "crappy" steering wheels and they don't fall apart. Ford PI's have the same problem but they have never addressed it.

Try a full U-turn on a two-lane road to nab a speeder... Just like that Caprice's steering wheel, the term "Airbag" might apply to the engineers responsible for this vehicle?

That's just another fine example of the crappy quality of the materials used to make the Caprices. Those steering wheels came apart in your hands if you gripped them too tight.

GM= Garbage Makers

Lame set up. Are they biting their steering wheels?
