Public Safety is still used in many Western towns. Here there was a big deal over the car saying public safety. so they put police on the side, and public safety on the rear. Also, the New Mexico State Police is Actually "NMDPS" as they have officers trained in almost anything for emergencies. Along with MTD (DOT) being with the NMDPS as a sub division.

Hey Tater, besides this comment, I had never wasted my time writing about you on this site. I always just laughed at the war of words you had with other visitors to this site but I never got involved. So think about that before you call someone a dipstick. Besides, I don't recall apologizing for anything.

Guest Tater wrote: Wednesday, September 28, 2005 - 7:51

Yeah, it WAS me. I told you dipsticks that I know more about this hobby than most of you ever will. Your apology is accepted.

Now if you could just make a constructive comment instead of worrying about what I say every day, then it might shift the focus away from your multiple spelling errors.

Wow Tater, if it really is you, I'm impressed. You actually said something smart and did'nt make a stupid comment. I'm apalled

If you noticed the other views of this same car, it says "PUBLIC SAFETY" on the side instead of POLICE. Many smaller towns have their police and fire personnel cross trained as full time police officers/part time fire fighters or vice versa.

Guest Trooper52 wrote: Saturday, September 24, 2005 - 6:02

The town probably had the same dispatch for police and fire. Back in the 70's when this car was in service most places did not have 911 yet.

Anonymous wrote: Saturday, September 24, 2005 - 0:00

why exactly does this say POLICE-FIRE on it? Was it meant to resemble a police car or a fire dept. car?

i was employed at the marshall police dept when this vehicle was put into service in 1980. previous to that it was a red cross wagon. i'm not sure how we ended up with it, but think it came thru some surplus govt deal when the city of marshall took over emergency mgmt for lyon county. it sure came in handy during many snow storms!!

I'm curious as to what this vehicle had for an electrical system to pull a Q2 and a TwinSonic bar!

Guest Tyler wrote: Friday, April 8, 2005 - 0:15

Still in service today

I've always liked the Federal Q2B siren, but mounted on the front bumper. The siren is almost as big as the front wheel!
At least it's not over the driver's head.

Must be the police academy.

Actually, if I recall correctly it was taken at a funeral for a Minnesota Trooper killed in the line of duty.
