This is a modern version of the "Hornets Nest" logo of the city-county government, which I think was combined in the early l970s. A more traditional version is the logo of the city of Charlotte. I recall it dates from the Revolutionary War and I think a hornets nest was symbolic of a battle near Charlotte that "stirred up the war." I went to college in Charlotte in the early l970s, it's quite a city now! The Charlotte PD always had blue and white cars and Mecklenburg County had yellow cars back in the early l970s. Hope this answers the question.

The philly PD switched over to the new decals in the end of 2003. They changed it because it cost $700 cheaper than the previous stripping package.

That's the way they are striping their cars now. I don't know why they changed graphics. The new ones are kind of plain. I suspect it's a cost issue.

Looks like the motor maits. dept used passenger side markings on the drivers side. I have only seen the double stripes top-forward:bottom-rear.
