DHS is the cabinet-level umbrella organization for such agencies as US Customs, Coast Guard, Secret Service, Federal Emergency Mangement Agency (FEMA), Transportation Security Administraiton (TSA), Federal Protective Service (FPS), etc. The DHS mandate is to consolidate domestic security, domestic intelligence, and emergency planning and response into one centralized organization. DHS agencies operate primarily in the US, but some agencies (like Secret Service) have at least some operational capacity around the world.

The FBI, however, is a part of the Department of Justice.
