I saw a few of these red spot lights behind me growing up in California in the 70's.

Totally agree. I had some CHP officers in my Reserve AF SP unit at Travis AFB, CA (Fairfield) l993-1996, they also called the steady red spot, "the ruby." The slicktop CHPS remain classics. This is a fine example.

ONE SHARP CAR!!! I always did like the C.H.P. cars in their simplicity and traditionalism. One red light to the front and an amber in the back window. The one I drove had a red lightbar but I always liked that red spotlight. Used to call it the "Deathray".
