That is a very nice patrol car. If only the LAPD had a fleet of cars like this one. But since the CHP has taken over those duties as 10/1/69, they would be better off with them.

No, it is a cattle truck. For the department's Dairy unit.

Awesome car. This one has been my favorite since I was a kid when I used to watch CHiPs . I just wished this car would be made into a die cast model .

I lived up the road in Sacramento around this time frame (Mather AF Base) and these were strange cars. Note the cheap stenciled sign on trunk and a far cry from the standard B&W scheme for CHP and most municipal PDs and green and white for most Sheriff's departments back then. The light left of the rotating red light is the CVC (Ca Veh Code) required "steady red light" which demarcs a true emergency vehicle even to this day in CA. Plus, most departments in the early l970s drove Dodge and Plymouth products. Stockton was clearly non-conformist here. That Ford Falcon, they broke down a lot!

I like this picture. After GM stopped producing the Chevy Caprice, the CHP had contiuned to buy the Ford Police Interceptor. The Ford Police Interceptor had not been redesigned since 1998. Does anyone know that when Ford makes over the Ford Police Interceptor?

Does this Dodge Magnum equip with V8 or V6?

Guest Steve Costa wrote: Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 0:04

I remember these police cars when I was a boy and we traveled through Stockton. I always asked my dad who was an Assistant Fire Chief in Oakland, CA why do the Stockton Police want to look like the Fire Department? he couldn't explain it either!!!

SFPD has had the seven pointed star door design since the late 1930's. they are positioned on each front door and on the trunk. The trunk placement is unique as on modern cars it faces upward for the police helicopters to ID the car. In the late 1930's the cars were round and the star on the trunk faced the public.

Really? Are you sure?

Guest Mike wrote: Monday, September 25, 2006 - 7:49

This is NOT a cop car.

Guest Fred Webb wrote: Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 15:37

Mike, Don't know where you got your information but this 1972 Peacekeeper belongs to the Folsom, Ca. PD. I built it, took the picture, and posted it.
