Nice shot of a now defunct agency. Wish you had more! How about their specialized units like EOD, SWAT, Aiplane, Horse Carriers, K-9, station wagons, etc.

I'm working on a 1:24 scale chp expedition and I need to know where the directional bar is on the expedition. Also, does anyone know if the cage is located behind the driver and passenger seats? Any help is appreciated.

Martinez, you guys have got the best looking cruisers I have ever seen! I lived their for 6 months, and never got a good picture of the cars, but they're definitely sharp!

Makes me think back to watching the 92 LA riots on TV.

Volvo has offered a separate police line of their sedans in the European markets for almost 50 years. It wasn't until more recently that they have become more accepted as a potential alternative here in the US. Initial price and higher maintenance costs seem to be the stumbling block compared to their American made counterparts.

That car looks cool as a cop car. Too bad they wern't issued as a package.

Guest Car Guy wrote: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 - 17:47

I'm pretty sure these were a real police package. Not sure. Anyone know anything about them or the old "K car" police packages?

Guest Car Guy wrote: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 - 17:43

I was reading about these things, (in a cop car book by Ed J Sanow), being used in the late 90's.

TEST RESULTS:

The '96 Vovlos were tested at 222 HP, could do the quarter in 16.65 and had a top speed (without lightbar) of 126MPH.

Good performance, but I'm surprised thay never caught on. Were these only a test car? Or could they be purchased for police work?

I've also seen pics of Volvos from the late 80's being used by police. Did volvo have some police cars before this one?

My father was there when this picture was taken. He drove this camaro on the runway and got up to about 160 mph... he said it was still pulling away but the wind got too bad.
being an officer with the CHP myself, i have drive these camaros, they are fast and they look great, but they are too low to the ground for everyday patrol and the doors are too long, you have to focus too much on not letting the door go into traffic...
