You think this is bad? How about getting stuck with a diesel engined Chevrolet Chevette to patrol a 90 acre site. Dang bean counters! Oh yeah the dept head was diving a full size car.

Guest William wrote: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 15:51

I was wondering, did you get a chance to get pictures of the old graphics? If so are they on the albums?

Guest Tater wrote: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 11:05

You emailed me on October 10th, remember? I replied four times over the course of 10 days, Chicken Little.

Never got it, huh? All four of them? Ok. Stick with that story. You'll never have to worry about someone ever accusing you of PLAYING dumb. It's obvious now that it's no act.

Guest jw wrote: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 1:33

Tater;

I never got any e-mail from you moron. What did you want to tell me

Guest Tater wrote: Monday, October 24, 2005 - 18:38

Is there a Cagel's truck stop nearby too?

You're not one of jw's cousins, are you? If you are, will you tell him that I replied to his email 4 times. I can't figure out if he's just too stupid to know how to hit "reply" or he's just too scared. Tough call on that one.

These four shots were taken in front of The Preserve at Cress Creek apartments, winter 04-05. I think the cops were there once a week.

I used to work for a college police department and we had beats that were mostly foot patrol around the dorms. I would bet the Prius used by officers assigned a foot patrol and they just use the car to drive to their patrol area.

Guest AJ wrote: Friday, September 16, 2005 - 5:36

Actually the University bought a few of them and foisted one onto the Campus police department. Most of the time it sits out in front of Douglas Hall (Dorm). The other cars are Crown vics, and a Expedition.

As I stated in my previous comment, I graduated from NIU. I know that the NIU Police is a full service police department with full powers of law enforcement of the Great state of Illinois. They are not a bunch of meter maids. They put their lives on the line just like cops from Jersey to California. People underestimate college PD's. They need their equipment.

A Toyota anything does not make a good police car....remember the Toyota Camry's tested by the California Highway Patrol?....Ask the owner of this great site about them...I'm quite sure he will agree with me when I say they were not vewry favorable police cars.

Exactly how big of a car do they need to drive around a college parking lot or go from building to building writing fire lane parking tickets?

Guest Mike White wrote: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 23:20

Give them a break. With gas prices the way they are departments are going to have to find more fuel efficient vehicles. They are probably just trying to innovative.

Guest Anthony wrote: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 17:13

I graduated from NIU. I am very dissapointed that the administration thought so little of their Police department that they would buy this piece of trash for them. The police officers deserve much, much better.

For shame NIU, truly....for shame indeed.

Sorry I forgot to leave my name. The lightbar must have been left over from 99 then.

Sorry, JW. Without your name I thought you were that guy who said they were dull again.

I believe the wedge was brought in by a former director. It was one of many changes he brought to the department that was not popular with department personnel. I beleive the new design was introduced in 2000. I always thought the first year for the wedge was 1995 but I guess it could have been 1994. I think this car in the above picture is 1999 model due to the fact is has the Vista lightbar. 1999 was the only year ISP used the Vista bar. They went back to the MX7000 the next year. The car has probably been restriped with the new graphics.

Mr. Anonymous,

The car in this picture is a 2000 model, not a '99. If you want anyone to have faith in or lend credence to anything you say, why not use your name?

I totally disagree. This design and these colors carry a lot of heritage and tradition. In the mid 90's the design was changed and the troopers requested the design be changed back to this design which resembles the old design. This design is unique. These so called awesome graphics on a dark colored you are talking about are usually ordered out of a catalog and half the police departments in the country have them.

Nicely said, JW. I agree with you. The ISP brown/yellow combination has been with them in one form or another since 1967. It's the troopers who wanted to change the awful wedge scheme of the mid-90s to something that more closely reflects the traditional ISP look that the citizens were more accustomed to. The troopers designed this look and voted on it before it was used- unlike the wedge in 1994.

ISP cars are dull. There are so many local police departments in Illinois that have awesome schemes. ISP should come up with a dark colored car with better graphics.

Guest AJ wrote: Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 7:14

The lisle police department uses this for their dare car. I talked with the officer that was with this car at a show a couple months ago. It was donated to the police department.
