These are new Miami-Dade County Police cars just after the overhead lights and radio equipment was installed. The cars are now waiting to be taken to a parking garage where they are striped and the cages are installed. This picture was taken at the ITD Radio Shop in South Dade. Some ares in Miami you would think you're in South America so technically it's not wrong to say they're awaiting shipment to South America.

The first model year for the new Impalas was 2000.

Guest Skippy wrote: Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 10:40

1999 might have been the 1st year for the Impalas (since new year models come out late in the year before) but from Chevrolet's Fleet Management website, the first Police package Impalas introduced were 2000 models.

99 WAS the 1st year for the impala

Guest Larry Dean wrote: Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 6:08

I thought 2000 was the first year for the Impala. This photo says this Impala is a 99.

Sheriff Bufurd T. Justice, the main law enforcement character in the movie drives a Le Mans this same color. However his is a four door model and I believe he had solid blue lights, which was one the few flaws I saw on the police cars in the movie. I have never seen a Texas police car with solid blue lights.

This looks very similar to one of the cars driven in Smokey and the Bandit....

That is a Downey Police motor officer from the city of Downey, CA. Awesome city, awesome police department.

On the other hand, it's a relatively rare and certainly interesting old Mopar ('61 Dodge) that's been saved from the crusher- and that's always worthwhile.

I dont know if my comment matters but here there is a old yard and many of the cars are repainted (just were old logo's were removed) and sold in packs to mexico police, etc. as for the plates here they leave them on as MVD personnel remove them right before auction or on auction day. same case here possibly. i recall here they auctioned off fcv's, new that were rear ended, or damaged, then fixed cheap, and shipped off to mexico were whoever there bought them.

ok, better monitor, blah, blah, yak, yak...but seriously..."i can plainly see that it SAY'S florida?" i might be able to see that it says florida, not say's. and i know that i type in all lowercase, but some punctuation other than commas would be nice.

Guest roo676 wrote: Saturday, October 15, 2005 - 22:38

Guest roo676 wrote: Saturday, October 15, 2005 - 22:36

Guest el taco grande wrote: Wednesday, October 12, 2005 - 20:32

roo676, i have to get my eyes checked? non-floridians can't tell that's a florida exempt plate because the text is too small on the plate to read. and while i might need my eyes checked, you might want to check the dictionary every once in a while...

i have TOO agree with ppd194...

YU have a wonderful site here...blah, blah, yak, yak...

oh, and a HOBBIE is a name-brand for sailboats and the like. the hobby is what you were more than likely talking about.

I am sure you could order surv mode switch at a Chevrolet dealer. I think 2000 and maybe 2001 are the only years the Impala had the surv mode switch. The 2000 Impala has all kinds of things cops don't like. Such as the surv mode is the only way to turn all your lights out while the car is running. There is also no way to turn the dome light out when you open the door unless you disable it. I guess by 2002 Chevrolet had got enough complaints from cops about these quirks that they changed them.

Guest Erich Slaughter wrote: Wednesday, October 5, 2005 - 20:17

I have just bought a clean, unmarked police package Chevy Impala, 2000. My problem is that the surv mode switch has been removed. Is it a part number that I can order is from Chevy? Also, I would like the same part number for the sightsaverTM interior light so when the surv mode on the inside dome light will be red. Please help!

When I add notes or identities to vehicles, I am left to what I am told by the contributor. In this case, the contributor stated that these vehicles were being readied for transport to South America. So that is how it got labeled.

Guest el taco grande wrote: Friday, September 30, 2005 - 13:16

oh, the geniuses are out in droves this week. first, what eagle-eyed person made those out to be florida plates? second, can't you read the caption of the picture? it says "Misc - Ford PIs awaiting shipment to South America." these are good 'ol american explode-if-you-hit-me-in-the-rear crown vics being prepped for export to south america. now, i know that a lot of people think that florida is south america, but they actually mean the continent, not the region of the usa.
