incorrect. the highway patrol had a few of these broncos for sever weather duty as well as truck enforcement. and the 4th pct. in suffolk still uses crown vics for thier supervisors.

no, they actually patrol the TOWN OF SOUTHAMPTON only. montauk is covered by east hampton town pd and riverhead by the riverhead p.d. and the suffolk county p.d still responds into these areas with specialized equipment when requested.

Our agency has used them, and they work pretty well and have been pretty reliable as well. They navigate our narrow alley ways in our city during pursuits. The new Impalas are faster than the current Police Intercepter sedan.

I agree, the Impala is a throw away car which self destructs in less than a year of service, including not only mechanicals but the interior fall apart. I will take a tried and true Crown Vic any moment over the bean counters loving Impala!

The improper spelling was intentional. It's called a pun... Did you ride the short bus?

Anonymous wrote: Saturday, February 3, 2007 - 10:31

"I thought NYC banned led from everything, including paint."

If you had spelled "lead" correctly, it might have been funny. But you didn't.

"What I was trying to say was that it seems that they decided to try out an ALL-LED lightbar, but instead choose to stick with the vision bar, albeit the LED version."

So what you were trying to say was that NYPD tried out an all LED lightbar but settled on an all LED lightbar. I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

This car was beautifully done. I would love to see photo's of its restoration. I hope to see this car in person in future shows. Geat rolling tribute to NYPD veterans!

FDNY units are all switching to LEDs.

actually it is a precient RMP. (23 Pct?) (rear Quarter )
Mostly all precients now have at least one RMP with the McDermott Riser Bar, to provide extra scene safety to accidents

Anonymous wrote: Friday, February 2, 2007 - 14:46

Well the car in the rear is definatley for Highway. It has the McDermott High Riser bar. and those who have eagle eyes on the front plate above and below the numbers you will see small blue letters.. "highway patrol" No other NYPD RMP plate has anything else except the numbers

The car in the front has no markings as to its assignment. (break in blue stripe in rear quarter) Most times these cars are "reserve" cars in the fleet to replace non serviceable units. However, these units do see action.. most times they are used for vehicle escorts (eg president)

What I was trying to say was that it seems that they decided to try out an ALL-LED lightbar, but instead choose to stick with the vision bar, albeit the LED version. Then again, I say this only after seeing this picture:

They didn't decide to stick with the halogen Vision/Vector. That is the all-LED Vision bar that etg mentioned.

Guest Jack wrote: Thursday, February 1, 2007 - 12:30

I agree, it's a very good lightbar. I think NYPD tested out some all-LED lightbars a while back, but they decided to stick with the vision/vector, just like the CHP.

Guest etg wrote: Thursday, February 1, 2007 - 8:51

just as an fyi, and i'm not saying this car is equipped with one, but federal signal does put out a v-shaped led light bar. same construction as the vision/vector, but with solaris led assemblies in the pods. and there are those that swear by the visibility of the vision/vector bar. just because it's a design that's been around for a while doesn't make it "dated."
