Hi, Just a note, when Pusser was sheriff 64-70, McNairy County was designated "50" county, and his plates starting with the black one in 65' and then the white ones read:
50 SHERIFF. A later realignment of counties changed McNairy to "53" county.

the movie was made around the time he was sheriff. so it could be the same.

Yes, it's true Sheriff Pusser served from 64-70. However, this car is exactly like the ones used in the 1972 movie about him "Walking Tall." The one Joe Don Baker (as Sheriff Pusser) used was also a '72 Polara but an unmarked tan version. (Histotical note: At that time, sheriffs in Tennessee had their own plate number, starting with their county number (Tennessee has 95) and the word "Sheriff." Hence, Sheriff Pusser's was "53-SHERIFF"

Buford Pusser was sheriff from 64 to 70. Would have been hard for him to have had a 72 model sheriff's car.
