My comment on the police cars is the it is very bright and it blends in with all of the other cars.

Cool yes....Fair, NO! But I'd be happy to drive it on patrol everyday.

''Parabéns pelas fotos legais!"

Which, translated from Portuguese means:

"Congratulations for the legal photos"

I guess the reply to that would be thanks?

Um, Joshie Boy, they almost always catch chase suspects here in the US.

Must be nice to see a "real" police car in a country filled with compact "green and whites." The owner needs to square away the light-gar though, and put all of the red filters on the driver's side and all of the blues on the passenger side. Needs black spotlights on both pillars, too!

This does not look like a gendarmerie car. A gendarmerie car is blue, says "GENDARMERIE" on the sides, and has black number plates with a 8-digit number on them.

Hello Greg,

I am astounded by the number and the quality of the photos in your album, WOW !
But this car is not french; we have no Ford taurus here and the color scheme doesn't exist in France.

Just my 2 cents :-)

Thanks Frenchy, but this is not one of my photos. It was taken by Mike Simon and it was his album you were looking at. The caption says the picture was taken on the island of St. Marten which is in the Atlantic Ocean. It's not in France, but the official languages in St. Marten are French and Dutch.

What a difference 30+ years makes...........back in the Hippie Era that 'Police' logo would have been pure Peter Max/Grateful Dead............today; it is a regulation insignia? Too mindblowing for this old Hippie :)

The two dots on the plate are on every car here in Germany.
The dot above shows the owner ( and the police, too) the time to get to the next emission check (on front plate) and the next technical check ( so commonly called TÜV-check) on back plate.
On the front plate it is an hexagon, showing in the center the year ( for example 01 for 2001, 02 for 2002 an so on ) and around the twelve month. You must bring your car to the check at the month which is on the upper position on the hexagon on your plate.
The second dot below is the admission sticker. It shows the region or city where the car is registered. In this case it is the City of Stuttgart. The admission sticker is a circle. In the circle is for example a coat of arms, with a heraldic animal from the region where the car belongs to.
