Ripon 2002

Once again, Darryl Lindsay's annual Ripon, CA charity police car show was a huge success. 75 vehicles came out to enjoy the sunny weather and showed why Ripon is the premier copcar event for the West Coast.

I'm crazy over '79 Z/28's. Over the last decade I have collected one pristine model of each of the fourteen colors they came in that year. I just delivered a very low mileage black '79 Z to the paint and body shop today to begin a replicate model of the CHP car. If you have any info that would be helpful in completing this car, please let me know. Thanks, John.

Hello, my name is Sheldon Ross. I live in Wichita Kansas, and I own a 79 Z-28 Camaro. The car is fully loaded, t-tops, 4- speed and Power windows ect ect. I have owned the car since 1979. It has only 19,000 actual miles. I am 42 years old, and I purchased the car when I was 17. However, I have never seen a Cop car. NICE.

Great car, but then I am a bit prejudiced. I have owned a 79 Z28. Loved that car. I still can't figure out why I got rid of it. Stupidity comes to mind. My web site is dedicated to the 79 CHP Z28. I would love to add photos of this restored CHP Z28 to it. If allowed to do so, I would of course give proper credit. I have to say I am envious of the owner of this vehicle.

I have seen your car at least a dozen times over the last 10 years or so at various California shows. Do you ever plan on fixing it up or restoring it so it looks as good as the rest of the old CHP cars that come to Ripon every year? It's really sad to see a unique car like yours looking as ratty as it does for as many years as it has when it could be worth so much more and look so much better if it were restored.

hey thats my car. this is a 1982 amc eagle xchp from the chp yard. I bought the car in 1986 its slick top companion was for sale with it. thats the most seen photo. my eagle i think is from sueinville but im not sure. the cost was $1400.00 for my car and $1900.00 for the slick top. my car has a cargo cadge and highway tires the slick top had nobby tires.and more beat up ,some one bought it from idaho.but i havent talked to this person in ten years.I have replaced the carpet and reaplsterd the drivers seat.I have been showing it for 8 or more years. the last two years I have been keeping it in a storage shed to keep it out of the weather. Last summer we went to post falls show. and i'm a regular at rippon , chps cops and rodder show next year i'll go to more shows. please e mail me if you have any questions.

Derek, you are from Denver. Shame on you. All you would have had to do is go up to Central City or several other mountain towns in Colorado circa 1980 and you'd have seen these vehicles being used over and over again by police departments. The only other real competition were the Chevy Blazers and Ford Broncos at the time.

Why, what is so crazy about a 4X4 wagon from the 80's when no one else made them. Or that this vehicle could be used in the north where it snows and the 4X4 is needed to get around. Then there is the off-road use in California where CHP is, this could get just about anywhere a car can't. Plus the CHP needed vehicles like this for patrolling off-road and these where great just for that. They where not top heavy like a Blazer and they got better gas mileage, these are basically back now in 2003 but as a Chrysler Pacifica (Chrysler bought AMC a long time ago). The AMC vehicles had police packages and where widely used by departments, I would see these all over the place in Wisconsin as marked units. Usually as a K-9 because it was a wagon and had lots of room for the dog and stuff.

I also own a Z28 Intercepter car. I bought 3 of them, when I owned a body and paint shop in Riverside, CA in the 80's. I restored one for myself, sold one to another party and the last one was scraped.

My husband and I have two Eagle 4by4's we would like to sell. The l987 wagon has 118,000 miles and is in running order and the 86 has an intact body, but dosen't run. We have no idea what they are worth...if you are interested our#is 920 745 2937
