Looks like a Dodge pickup, 1923-26

-sorry I can't narrow down the exact year

I saw this car at least ten years ago at the CHP Academy show and it looks like it has not changed a bit since then. I guess that would make it a 10 year time frame then.

First off I think the comments are made to let you know you have a nice restorable car, it's not a smart remark, I'm sure those at the main board will be more than happy to help you look for things to help you restore the car, besides money which we all could use...

From the early l970s when stationed in CA, SFPD did not have Beacon Rays, they had two steady red spots mounted close in on a small cluster bar with one, maybe two ambers to rear, and oddly, a white spot mounted center above the windshield--talk about cutting holes in the roof! They also had a bar welded across the rear door windows (pre cage days?)to keep a suspect in the car when the windows were down. I agree on too much white and I think they had shop numbers on the roof like LAPD.

This car was NOT supposed to be a San Fran cop car. It was a 61 Dodge painted in a typical California b&w police paint scheme in order to help sell it. The SFPD stars were magnetic and put on simply to make it more presentable at the Ripon car show.

Don't worry "anonymous", I'm still here. Up until your comment there wasn't anything here worthy of mentioning. I thought you said you were done leaving comments here? Still too chicken to write to me directly? Yeah. I thought so.

We haven't heard anything out of Tater for a few days. I wonder if his parents grounded him from the computer.

I read somewhere that an ambulance service somewhere in California still has 2 1975 Cadillac Ambulances in service. There were federal regulations for ambulances passed in the late 70's that forced the production of the limosine style ambulances to stop.

And plus it says SHERIFF on the doors helps also....

If I had that in my mirror, I would probably have a heart attack or wet in my pants! Whichever comes first! I hope the citizens of Ripon knew of this show ahead of time! And drove accordingly!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:59

Even with the low profile light bar, it is no mistaking what type of car this is!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:56

Erik Estrada & Larry Wilcox should be standing next to this Dodge! Or Michael Doran!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:54

If you have to pay the ambulance bill, at least it won't hurt that bad if you have to ride to the hospital in this beauty!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:52

Hope to get my own private shot of this car should it re-appear at the Ripon 2005 show!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:51

This Vic and it's 1988 older brother has always been a favorite of mine! Very comfortable and with enough get up & go!

Sometimes it pays to be a volunteer!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:47

Impressive! Looks like they are waiting for some sort of inspection! Well again...maybe they are! From patrol car fans!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:46

Sharp! I've seen this patrol car at many meets and I never get tired of looking at it!

Guest George Gong wrote: Saturday, September 3, 2005 - 7:45

Nice however I do not know if SFPD patrol cars of that era had that much whit epaint on the roofop. Looks more LAPD to me! I wish SFPD went back to the more black on the rooftop! Very original and authorative looking!
