Greg
Can you explain to me the best way to make black background effects in the grill of this kit?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The easiest way to blacken a grille is to use a water-based flat black paint that is slightly watered down. Use your brush and just paint over the whole piece. The black paint will settle in the recessed areas. Then right away, use a just barely damp paper towel and gently wipe off the excess black from the parts that are supposed to stay silver. Be careful not to rub the chrome plated parts too hard or the plating will come right off. This same method was used on the wheel covers for a much more realistic appearance.
It also works for the door and trunklid seams.
Revell monogram will be releasing a snap kit of the Impala in 1/24th scale in Feb.2005 and they say it is a 2004 year.
Since there haven't really been any visible changes in the Impala since it came out the model could really be anything between a 2000 and an '05 and no one would know.
What a neat machine! I may be biased ( living in and from Va.) but I think they have the best paint scheme- I have a 2001 and a 2003 Impala (full size), and I can't wait to see a model made or available- my best bud's a va. state trooper, and he hates the crown vic he has to drive- he wants an Impala, and said the caprice classic he turned in was the best cop car in all his nearly 30 years service- Monty
