This car is huge....about 3 feet long...I probably won't be making more of these in particular....the cost would be a little hefty ....it took over a week to build...It takes up quite a bit of space, when I get tired of it I may be interested in selling it. Having said that, I do have a 1/25th scale Gran Fury that I am in the process of molding and plan to sell resin kit (copies) of it. I should have more information on this if you are interested in the next couple weeks

If the OSP cars were like the Michigan ones (MSP), Ford wanted extra $$ to paint them the same color as the body of the car.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The way it used to be with them was that if you had a custom fleet color that was not a standard Ford production paint shade, the bodies would be painted prior to final assembly and then the bumper facias, which were produced at another facility, were installed later. To make things easier on the bumper makers, they used only Ford stock colors. It was decided that black and silver would be the default bumper colors for cars with custom paint shades. Many municipalities could afford the extra cost to have their entire car painted the same color, but others didn't want to spend the extra money just to have the bumpers match the rest of the vehicle. Take for example yellow taxi cabs. Cab companies in Chicago chose the black bumpers, while NYC taxi companies opted for the silver ones. Some police agencies with distinct colors like Michigan, Ohio and Rhode Island SPs decided to follow the thrifty route like the cab companies and had black bumpers for a few years.

nice you got the black moulding and curious black bumpers....not sure why oshp had black bumpers? was the car ordered black and painted grey? most people don't know about this fact and leave it off the model. it shows you did your research

I agree totally. This diorama says something to me about strength. It's symbolizes the courage and dedication the civil servant has not only on that day, but every day. Even covered in debris in the middle of possibly the most tramatic event in our nations history (certainly the most tragic one most of us can recall)it's there and ready to do it's duty.
Excellent work

That is one of the coolest 9-11 tribute models I've ever seen.

Guest Tom wrote: Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 13:45

I had this same model in the early 70's, I had it as an undercover car with no lights, markings, in red.
Long gone, :(

I was wondering if he might be able to make me one of those. I make and collect NYPD, NYSP, Nassau and Suffolk county police cars. Guess im still kinda homesick. if you have anyway to get in touch with him I'd like to make the old box car NYPD Diplomats. For a good price I might get 2.

I've got the 1976/77 style Dodge Royal Monaco in the end stages of developing the body shell (working out some bugs)...even the model of this car is gonna scream "get out of the way!" sitting on a shelf next to the Gran Fury....this thing is a monster. The next project will either be a 78 Volare/Aspen based on my Gran Fury or a 78 big LTD based on my 80's Crown Vic. I never made aquaintance with the retarded Bolivians, but I have a half dozen or so Cuban mongoloids(on loan from Martha Stewart) working their butts off in my basement.......lol

Nice job on the model; however, not to be a nit picker, the paint job is beautiful but that era of NYS police cars white and black. The "Sunaco special" paint jobs came in in the mid 1970's... Keep up the great work.

HEY I FOUND THIS KIT IN THE BACK OF MODEL BUILDER'S MAGAZINE ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO. IS THIS THING STILL OUT THERE CAUSE MINE GOT DESTROYED ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO BY MY EX-GIRLFREIND'S KID. I WOULD LIKE TO GET COUPLE MORE AND EVEN THE FORD TWO.

I think I remember the resin Diplomat model you're refering to from the early 90s. It was not to scale and looked as if it had been made by blind retarded kids in Bolivia.

Scratchbuilt ? Or where is this kit from ? Tell me more...
***********************************
Not much more to tell you. He scratchbuilt them in 1/25 scale. He tells me he's also done them in 1/6 and 1/14 scale. He is a professional model builder, meaning he recreates scale replicas of things in miniature for a living.

This is just superb!! Did you use the Roadrunner kit as the basis? And what did you do to modify the roof? And the Federal CP100 speaker looks perfect. Could you e-mail me, and advise on some of the modifications? I would like to try my hand at building a couple of Fury's!
Thanks
