The steering wheels were on the right side of the trucks until they were changed by Mayor Big Bill Thompson.

In 1927, Al Capone's support allowed Thompson to return to the mayor's office. Pledging to clean up Chicago and remove the crooks, Thompson instead turned his attention to the reformers, who he considered as the real criminals. According to Thompson, at this time the biggest enemy of the United States was King George V of England. Thompson promised his supporters to change the driving wheel from the right side to the left if he was re-elected. He was also responsible for changing the flow of the Chgo river.

Well, I mean other than the red and green lights.

Guest Joe A wrote: Thursday, April 5, 2007 - 17:11

On my monitor the head lights are green on the left and red on the right.

Two questions, why is the steering wheel on the right and why are there no headlights

Look at that old ladder truck. What model is it

Nice display of water. How much water can it pump.

Just wondering, is this truck used to tackle extra-alarm fires?

the top light is a dx-40 by mars,the top light
was also given the slang term "football". it moved
side to side and the round lens gave it a great
appearance when viewed from the front or back. a lot of the rear bulbs were removed on tillered ladder trucks cause they would blind th rear wheel
man.the fender mounted lights are 888's by mars.
they moved in a figure 8 pattern 3 times.very mechanical and very eye catching.(noisy when operating). one of these caddys was quartered at eng.
company 101 at 69th and justine.it was a real rust
bucket when I viewed it in the mid 60's.

applied to get shot at in the ghetto they interviewed me at room 105.when I asked if this would lead to a fire dept job mr. mcarthy said no
I said thanks but it wont lead to a good job and it
isnt worth the risk.

Yeah and then when people say "nice car" or "my dad used to" you got this guy who calls himself tater that does nothing but leave jerky comments. He needs to go back to class, I think i HERE his mother calling him

Guest Blue lights are all right wrote: Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 17:40

What is wrong with you people? Just cause there's more blue and red visible (there might be red on the back) you all start kicking and screaming. I'd hate to see what you'd do when you see a Las Vegas or Clark County, NV fire truck/ambulance.

Guest Ferris Bueller wrote: Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 14:40

I always thought that this was a place to look at the photos and make comments like" nice car" or "my dad had a car like that " I didin't realize we would be getting sooo much information that really doesn't matter to folks...this is an ambulance from 1974 for cryin' out loud!!!

Well if you were to read what I wrote about the KKK Federal Lighting Spefications, you can search the internet and look it up for yourself. I will admit that I was wrong in saying that all ambulances are mandated, it only applies to ambulances that are purchased with federal funds, but almost every city that runs an ambulance or any private company, has ambulances purchased with federal funds, IE taxes, and grants, so they are mandated federally in the US and must follow the specifications or they can be red-lined. A lot of states also require that the KKK specification be the lighting requirement in their states, that way everyone is on one page and ALL ambulance makers know what the KKK specifications are.

I would like to hear your knowledge of these federal lighting regulations for ambulances. I have seen as many differnt kind of lighting combinations on ambulances as I have on any other emergency vehicle.

 PTR-JasonUnited States wrote: Thursday, May 4, 2006 - 2:11

I think he was more running about how a lot of states copy each other, Ill may have copied TX and made somethings mandatory on their vehicles. One things is for sure all Ambulances and fire trucks are MANDATED, federally, by the lighting they can have on their emergency vehicles, as some people have stated, they can get purple and pink and use them as lights, no they can not. Ambulances are mandated by KKK Regulations (no not the Klan), and Fire Vehicles are mandated by NFPA Regulations.

This could be from the Commisner Blair era he kind of tossed traditon to the side with the Blakc over red and green and red lights and tried to reorganize all the stations by number etc...

Guest Strong Bad wrote: Tuesday, January 10, 2006 - 18:06

That looks a lot like 78's house (can tell by the brick work also the parking sign for the lot next to it) so that could possably be Ambulance 6.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was taken at the Wrigley Field firehouse on Waveland. Is that where Ambulance 6 pulls out of?
To me it's just another dumb red truck.
