Guess who? I've thought about it and have considered using Yahoo as a sponsor for my web page. I don't know whether or not if it has popups, but if it does, I'll just tell people to get or activate their popup blocker. But I don't know,I'll just hope for the best :)

I believe they added the silver middle section in ths style in the mid 80's,I've seen ones with the silver part rounded around the headlight. My town used a 73 snorkel/pumper with the silver area added fully by Pierce.

So the "R" could be an "A"uxilary and mean the same thing?

Notice the "R" next to the engine number? That stands for "Reserve" unit. In other words, this engine had been taken out of normal service and just used as a spare. It was probably destined to hit the auction block within a short time anyway. Once it is wrecked, it's not worth the cost to repair it. First, you just don't send these to a local body shop. They usually go back to the fire truck builder for repairs.

This is much the same thing as when your mother wrecks her car. If it's not worth fixing, the insurance company scraps it. It has nothing to do with laziness. It's dollars and cents.

Why wouldn't they fix up both trucks and return them to active status, or are they just too damn lazy to get up and do it?

Why do some people spend an afternoon leaving pointless comments on a website without signing their name, or are they just too damn lazy to do it?

Did that ambulance and truck collide into each other or is it a different story?

No, they didn't. These are sitting at an auction site long after the crashes that they were involved in.

Do You have any advice for starting a web page like this? I have a lot of Fire Truck Photos and i thought i should put them on the web for other people to enjoy, yet i don't want to have to pay for a web site, hence my allowance probably won't cover it.

Sorry, don't know what to tell you. There are free web sites available but they generally suck. Your visitors will be deluged with pop-ups and advertisements. Fotki does have free photo hosting but I believe it is very limited as to what you can do with it.

Thanks Dave, the same day of the Dallas Fire auction they had a Gold Diplomat at the Motor Pool site. That one I do not recall where it was used but could of been Dallas Fire too. That one was rough higher miles and I think the A/C did not work too. Mine is also gold and 90% sure it was the car you saw that day since they had just over a year gap between auctions and probably did not get mine ready to sell (Budget reasons). So if you see a gold Diplomat with 8" fender CB antenna running around Dallas that is me!

Dave, I bought the 1985 Dallas Fire Emergency Preparedness Diplomat they recently auctioned off. It had 48k miles and got it for a great price. Did Dallas ever have any marked Police Diplomats? I moved here in 1998 so I would not know and you are the DFW expert. I am going to keep the car stock as it was when in service by the Fire Department, was just curious how many Diplomats Dallas had? Thanks for the help.

About the same time this was being auctioned, there were one or two unmarked, Dips or Gran Furies sitting over at the motor pool, looking like they'd be going to auction soo. They were obvious detective units. Yes, the PD used a bunch of unmarked, covert Dips during the late to mid-80s.

Is this for sale, I will like buy. J/K, LOL!!
Dave, do you know who bought this at the auction that day? I was going to buy it but it went for way too much. The light bar even worked on it! It did need a very good buff and waxing to make it shine. I think it had like 40k miles and was driven by the Chaplin or some older fire officer.

It was a shop car, used for picking up parts. The mechanic who used it was the high bidder, knowing the history and shape of the car. That's why it went so high.

I'm a buff and I'm proud to admit it. Could YOU be the one in the closet? I saw you in Chicago poking around those big red things!

Heh heh heh... I'm not ready to admit anything :)
