Greg, do you know what size engines came in the original 1965 ford customs?

You can go to the Indiana State Police Youth Center and Museum at ISP Post #52 in Indianapolis and see the car in person. It is an original Indiana SP car that they found and restored and is displayed there.

I think it is a 1972 Mercury Monterrey Missouri Highway Patrol car at least.
************************************
No. I'll have to disagree. The 1972 had a pronounced crease at the lower body line and the center section of the nose protruded out more like the 71-72 Fords. This car has to be of the 1969-70 body style. Compare it to pictures of Steve Wren's original & unrestored 1972 Missouri HP Mercury in the Chicagoland 2000 and Festus 2000 albums and you'll see they're not the same year.

I'm an Arkansas state trooper and really enjoyed your photos. The blue white tops are a favorite of mine. I was wondering if you could give me any info on this vehicle or who I might contact regarding restoring an early to mid 70's dodge or plymouth. thanks Chris

The town of Sparta, Ms is really a town. It is located in Chickasaw County on Hwy. 46 between the towns of Sonora & Montpelier.

I don't know where the Sparta , MS in the original " In The Heat of The Night " movie was shot at , but in the television series , Sparta was actually Hammond , LA in the NBC days . When the series moved to CBS , Sparta MS was actually Covington , GA .

There is no such town as Sparta in Mississippi !

The 1967 movie was shot on location in Sparta, IL, a small town about 75 miles SE of St Louis in Randolph County, IL.
The above photo was taken in Sparta, IL in 1992 for the 25th anniversary of the film.

Where exactly is Sparta, MS. I take it that it is a real place.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's in North-central MS but it's just a dot on the map, maybe a 1 horse town. The "Sparta, Miss." of the movie "In the Heat Of the Night", starring Sydney Portier, was portrayed as just a little bigger than a small town, maybe a 3 horse town. It was, I believe, fictionalized. The car you see in the photograph belongs to Monty McCord, who is also posing in the picture. He outfitted the car to simulate the cars from the movie.
