As a teenager growing up in New York State, I always thought that the NYSP dark blue was one of the nicest looking police cars...thank goodness I never was on the flashing light end of one!
I recall once seeing a metallic blue Caprice in the summer of 1994 and actually going to the Trooper and asking him if NY was going to change the colors. I was a nervy 17 year old! The Trooper looked at me like I was drunk...hehe.

The lighter, metallic blue color was ordered wrong one year. Heads rolled, from what I've been told. See Joe Angelino's album, I believe he has a picture (but it may be a Ford).

Did the New York State Police use this car (Caprice) in the 1980´s? Do you have any photos of NYSP Caprices from the 1980´s? Would you post these on this website?
**********************
Since this is a 1992 Chevy, I don't think it would be possible for it to have been used in the 80s although that would be a neat trick if you could do it. NYSP used all types of cars over that 10 yr span: Plymouth, Ford and Chevrolet.

Anyone know what type of lightbar that is?

Anonymous wrote: Monday, February 23, 2004 - 18:12

is this a green/black/white or just black/white?

It's the typical tri-color NYPD green, black and white of that period. It's just a dark photo.

the lights are not hidden. It's just the angle of the picture and the shadow inside the grille

Guest alan leach wrote: Sunday, February 22, 2004 - 23:58

man!, what a hot car!! is that a hidden-headlight grille???

Guest leo wrote: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 - 2:02

I believe that was the car restored and converted to RMP 3100 in honor of the NYPD Magazine Spring 3100.

Rumor was that it just sat in a hanger at Floyd Bennet Field until they decided to do something with it.

I remember in the 70's driving thru pennsylvania with my parents at night on the pa. turnpike when dad got pulled over. As the trooper conducted business with dad I got out to look over the state police unit which was a 1974 or 75
plymouth gran fury in unmarked hunter green paint. the trooper told me it had the 440 magnum. no doubt it didnt take long to catch up with dad.

Dear Greg,

Do you know what is the color of this Maryland State Police car?

Are you using a black and white tv for the monitor on your computer?

The colors are green and black.

I too thought this was the sharpest of the PSP paint jobs, also graced the greatest of all police cruisers, the 72 Plymouth Fury magnum 440's. Unfortunately, the cars were involved a rash of crashes and the commonwealth's top cops felt that it was the color of the cars. The next years cruisers came out in a bizarre yellow and blue that was obnoxious, that was soon followed by the white with blue hood and trunks, which resembled their earlier white with green deck lids

nice restoration but the amber should be on the back of the first pod not the full second one

Well, since the car was for sale at the time this photo was taken in June of 2002, it's probably a moot point now.

My favorite era for ford police cars was from 1965-1972 I would love to own a model with a 428ci interceptor. This looks like one that might have been used in my home city of Minneapolis.

This is one of Suffolk county Police Department's original patrol cars from when it was first organized the year 1960.These police sedans were equipped with either a 318ci2 barrel or a 361ci 4barrell for use on the expreesways.

I will never understand why the PA State Police only had this color scheme for one year. These were the best looking cars they ever had.

NC cars were marked "State Patrol" until the late 70's or early 80's when they changed to "State Trooper"

Hi,
Do you know who the police officer is ?
It's a great picture.
If you have more Nassau County Police photos, I would love to see them.
I left my e-mail address.

Thanks...

What's wrong with the hood?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It's either dented or half unlatched. The siren is tilted up too. Maybe that's for people in the upper floors of apartments? Who the hell cares? The photo is 30 years old.

Dear Greg!

Your photo gallery is great.

Just one question which is for me as a scale modeller quite important concerning Maryland State Police vehicles like the 1970 Ford shown: what are the exact colours of the two tone paint scheme? Did they also use in 1970 all whice cruisers (I found one B&W picture in a book - I'm not sure if it is white). I hope you can help me.

Very truly yours

Manfred

The Maryland cars were green and black up until 1972 when they were changed to yellow like this 1972 Dodge: http://public.fotki.com/copcardotcom/greg_reynolds-_poli/304.html Their vehicles remained yellow or tan until about 1996 when they decided to go back to the more traditional (for them) green and black.

As far as what shade of green they used back then, I don't know. Half the fun of model building is experimenting with various paint colors until you find the correct one. That's how I do it with my models.

70 WAS FIRST YEAR FOR AUTOMATIC TRANNY AND A/C. THE JUNIOR BEACON ROOF LIGHT WAS USED FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS, IT WAS USELESS IN BRIGHT SUNSHINE. cARS HAD MECHANICAL SIRENS, WHICH IN 75, AT 130 MPH, YOU WERE OUTRUNNING YOUR OWN SOUND.
BUT, THOSE DARN PLYMOUTHS WOULD FLY, AND THEY HAD LOUD EXHAUST. WE HATED TO WRITE A TICKET FOR LOUD PIPES, WE WERE USUALLY LOUDER.
